When you support my storytelling, this is where the stories end up
One of the world’s biggest horror fiction podcasts.
International screenplay competitions.
The Australian Shadows Awards.
These are the places my horror stories are getting adapted, published, performed and entered. So that’s cool. I’m writing to invite you to join the journey - buy an advance copy of the new book, Bloodalcohol, through my crowdfunding page, get excited about the stories, get your name in the acknowledgements, play a part in maximising how many people read these stories and how successful they end up.
This is what a successful horror story looks like:
‘Kiss You While You Sleep,’ from my collection True? (2019) was recently sold to and adapted for Chilling Tales for Dark Nights. It’s the third story they’ve bought and broadcast. Thousands of people are enjoying each story that comes to life. It’s very cool seeing the audience respond through comments.
Two of the first batch of horror stories have become screenplays. More scripts will come out of the new collection (the one with your name in the acknowledgements).
I’ve been working with award-winning NZ director/screenwriter Linda Niccol as we try to get two horror stories eventually onto screens. I’ll send updates on this as they come through. Linda is highly professional, highly experienced, she has wicked taste, she’s a published short story author, and you might’ve enjoyed Second-Hand Wedding, which she wrote, and Poppy, which she directed. It’s wonderful having put some of my first horror stories in her capable hands.
Donate to my crowdfunding, be part of the story as Bloodalcohol gets published
Considering The Devil Took Her has been nominated for an Australian Shadows Award and a Sir Julius Vogel Award, the hope is that Bloodalcohol will result in some awards nominations.
I’m asking you to support Bloodalcohol by buying a copy in advance. 14 people have done so already, which is awesome. Far better than waiting eight months just to be rejected by a large publisher (horror fiction collections sell poorly).

Your crowdfunding donations help this top-quality NZ horror get the best cover so that it gets reviewed better and read more.
Let me repeat that. I know it sounds daft, but the most powerful cover gets the most powerful result in readership and reviews. That’s why a lot of the crowdfunding money is for my cover designer. The rest of the money pays for your paperback copy of the book, some reviewers’ copies, copyediting, postage and an online book tour.
I’m grateful to publisher Next Chapter, but I have to pay so that book has a strong launch instead of a flop-launch. Sadly, no major million-dollar publishing deal has come through. But that’s okay. By donating and securing a copy in advance, you are being hugely helpful. Big thanks to the peeps who have donated so far — Kiri M, Mark Mac, Lauren Gold, Lauren Silver, Gary D, Jenny, Rach, Scott B, Jamie M, Miriam, DG, Jared, Kristie and ____YOUR NAME HERE, Dear Reader.
Click on through and read all about Bloodalcohol.
Many thanks
